This farm stand favourite yields from 18-20 cm (7-8") in length. Perfect for large bunching. As these are taproots they do not transplant well. Carrots love all temperatures and will sweeten up until the winter. Can be covered and harvested very late in the season and into the following year. When sowing in seeds, make sure they are only exposed to a small amount of watering or rain as muddy soils can prevent proper germination rates.

850 seeds/gram Carrots will grow well in any open, well cultivated, deep garden soil. As the seed is quite small, mix it with some sand when sowing. Once soil temperature rises above 7.5 C (45 F), sow seed about 7-15 mm (1/4-1/2") deep in rows spaced 45-60 cm (18- 24") apart. Stagger several sowings over the next few weeks. Keep the seedbed evenly moist during the 2 week germination period but avoid crusting over the soil as this will greatly reduce the number of seedlings that emerge. Thin the seedlings during the early stages of growth until they are 5 cm (2") apart. Keep the plants evenly watered, weed free and avoid high nitrogen fertilizers. Harvest any time after the carrot roots develop good colour.

Who are we?

Canada's - Heirloom - Non-GMO - Heritage vegetable garden seeds supplier.  Support your secluded seed production across Canada.

What are Heirloom Seeds:

In the past, heirloom seeds were typically handed down to a son or daughter of a farmer who was getting married.  This was considered a wedding gift to help provide for the newly formed family.  Now these heirloom seed varieties are sought after because of their diversity and their widespread growing regions that has helped to keep them isolated from Genetically Engineered Varieties.   The most common reason for seeking out heirloom seeds is to find varieties that are resistant to various molds and crop diseases depending on the region in which you are trying to grow.
