Green buds with a slight bit of purple. Best harvested when 5-9 cm (2.5-4 inches) in diameter. Plants reach 1.5m (4.5') high. Best grown in containers or greenhouses to allow plants to survive the winter in Canada. The plants can also be dug up when dormant and relocated to an indoor location for the winter. Even though an artichoke plant can give an harvest on the first year, it is actually the second and third year where these produce the best.
